    Bruce R. White, a professor of mechanical and aeronautical engineering and the interim vice provost for academic personnel at UC Davis, will become dean of the College of Engineering for a three-year appointment that begins Jan. 1, 2009.

    William Ristenpart, an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, with research partners at Harvard University, has developed a technique that illuminates the way red blood cells regulate pressure in small blood vessels. Their findings appear online in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

    Robots have trouble following each other around because, unlike humans, they can't read the cues that predict future actions. Researchers at UC Davis have come up with a control system that allows a robot to pick up on these cues, anticipate direction and follow.

    Professor Alexandra Navrotsky has been awarded the Roebling Medal, the highest award of the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA). The award recognizes scientific eminence as represented primarily by scientific publication of outstanding original research in mineralogy.
